About me
A warm welcome to my website – I am Sarah
I am an experienced clinician, working as a Senior Psychological Therapist in the NHS, as well as in private practice.
During the 9 years that I have worked in the health sector, I developed an interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and following training, became accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (Membership No. 1003741). I am trained in Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and am currently training in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) (Membership No. 2021322).
Particular interests include:
– Management of chronic pain
– Long-term conditions and medically unexplained symptoms
– Supporting the cognitive and emotional needs of older adults
Much earlier in my working life, I had a career in Human Resources in both the public and private sectors.
Continuous professional development is of course a requirement of my accreditation and I enjoy regularly attending teaching and workshops to enhance my practice. I frequently attend professional supervision to ensure that your therapy is of the highest standard.
My therapy practice
I offer a safe, confidential space for you to talk about your difficulties, using a person-centred approach that honours you and your unique needs. Colleagues and clients highlight that warmth and empathy are my particularly strong skills.
CBT is a time-sensitive and structured therapy, which aims to help you develop skills and strategies to maintain progress after therapy finishes. Sessions last 60 minutes and treatment generally lasts between 6-20 sessions. However, therapy is tailor-made to you as an individual in its approach, as well as the required duration, for a successful completion. Therapists do not provide direct solutions, therefore the focus of our sessions will be to work together to support you to feel better – as quickly as possible – by testing out ideas and approaches that fit your needs and work for you.
I offer therapy sessions via Microsoft Teams or phone from the comfort of your home, or in-person at the Great Well-Being Therapy Centre, just a short distance outside Romsey town centre. Many people find that walking and talking can be soothing and reduce some of the stress of talking about uncomfortable emotions – this is also an option as part of ongoing therapy.
Availability
I am available for in-person sessions at the Great Well-Being Therapy Centre in Romsey on Thursdays, although other times can be arranged on request. Sessions by video/phone are available at other times.
